WELCOME TO ST MARY’S, BELGRADE!
I hope that you enjoy your visit to our web-site, and I hope that you will also enjoy visiting us in person at St Mary’s when you are in Belgrade.
While Belgrade is not yet a city that looms large on the tourist map, it is a wonderful and vibrant place to be – and the Anglican community here shares in that vibrancy. Although we are officially an Anglican congregation we have members from many different Churches and denominations, and from every corner of the world – a diversity which is reflected in our worship (Sunday eucharist, 10:30am, preceded by half an hour of contemporary music and an opportunity for open prayer; additional weekday eucharists for major saints’ days), our prayer life together and our social life as a community. We are a small, but ever growing community, and we welcome anyone who would like to come and worship with us.
Alongside the regular worship life of the Church, we also hold Bible study and discussion groups – especially in the seasons of Lent and Advent, but throughout the year as well. Please get in touch if you would like more details. We also try to fulfill our Christian calling through charitable work, most especially in supporting a refugee camp for Internationally Displaced Persons (in this case Kosovar Serbs) at Grocka, near Belgrade. Again, please contact us for more details, or to find out how you can help.
Although the Chaplaincy is based in Belgrade we also have congregations in Sarajevo (Bosnia Herzegovina) and Skopje (Macedonia) – if you are visiting these cities and would like to know more about these congregations please contact the Chaplain for details.
In all three cities we have good and warm relationships with our fellow Churches – Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Methodist – and we are regularly invited to use their buildings for our worship. It is one of the great joys of being here to see the ecumenical calling of Christ, expressed in His prayer from the Cross that all His followers should be one, being lived out in such a fashion, both within our congregation and in the fellowship we share with Christians around us.
Once again – a very warm welcome to you. I very much hope that we will be able to make that a personal welcome when you visit us in Belgrade, Sarajevo or Skopje!
