Fr
Robin Fox has been serving as chaplain
to St Mary’s Belgrade since August 2004.
He was born in Chesterfield, England, and
brought up along with his three older sisters,
who, he says, read him their literature exam
texts instead of children’s books! Fr Robin
studied English Literature at Durham
University, then, after discerning his call to
the ordained priesthood, Theology at the
College of the Resurrection in Mirfield,
Yorkshire. He was ordained deacon in 1995
and priest in 1996.
Fr Robin came to us from a post as a parish
priest at St John’s, Upper Edmonton, in north
London. Like St Mary’s, St John’s has a strong Ghanaian
component, so Fr Robin “felt right at home” here from
the minute he arrived – even though this is his first experience
of living outside the UK.
As well as caring for St Mary’s, Fr Robin is the Archbishop
of Canterbury’s Apokrisarios (or official representative)
to the Serbian Orthodox Church and chaplain to the British Embassy
in Belgrade. He also pays pastoral visits to our sister Anglican
communities in Sarajevo and Skopje, which are without priests of
their own.
When he’s not writing a sermon, our chaplain likes to listen
to music, read books of all kinds (the influence of the sisters
continues!), visit the cinema or theatre or simply explore Belgrade.
It’s even rumoured that he’s written and directed the
odd pantomime in the past. Does this mean that the Belgrade stage
will soon be host to a new genre? Watch this space!
